Today's poetic offering

When I hung up the telephone
I did not shed a tear
For whatever has been said or done
Part of you is always near.
I had not dared hope for you to call
But when it rang, there was your voice
And when the conversation was over
I realized we always have a choice.
When I hung up the telephone
I savoured the blessing that is life
Even if sometimes riddled with strife.
Thanks again for the chance to say goodbye
Especially after everything went awry.
I’m beginning to think of you less and less
And starting to straighten out my wicked mess.
