"Summer of Crows"

This past summer, I had the rare experience of a flock of crows raising their two yearlings in my backyard.

The protective guardians would dive bomb anyone who enterred the backyard, with the exception of myself. I imagine that I had been spotted earlier with my own young ones, and I was not much of a threat.

Later that same season, I had a breathtaking experience where one of the yearlings, with its thick charcoal down coat, sat with me on a blanket on the lawn while learning to fly. Completely fearless, we both sat there in awe.
